The 3rd inning had Hunter leading off and he smacked a double to left field. Hunter immediately stole 3rd. Scot was able to get on with a walk and he immediately took second base on the walk. Jacob stepped up and hit a 2 run line drive single to right field that scored Hunter and Scot. Kyle would come up and he hit a hard line drive that the 1st baseman was able to range over and rob him and step on 1st to get the double play. Tough outcome for the Cubs but the boys did everything we asked for on this one. The inning would end on a fly ball out to center field. Cubs take 5-1 lead. Jacob overpowered the Gris batters as he sat their 7-8-9 batters down 1-2-3 with strikeouts. Two strikeouts looking and the third was a strikeout swinging but not close to the gas that Jacob was throwing. Cubs lead 5-1.

Cubs looked to extend their lead in the 4th and after a strikeout were able to get Connor on base with a walk. Connor would advance to second on a beautiful sac bunt by Coleman. Connor would then steal 3rd and come around to score on a throwing error as they tried to get him as he was stealing 3rd. The Cubs looking for more in the last inning were aggressive at the plate but werent able to get more than a walk by Connor to the base paths as a strikeout, two ground outs ended the Cubs half inning fairly quickly. Cubs looking to shutdown the Gris bats to preserve the chamopionship here... a "For the Boys" chant before they ran out to their positions. Connor was able to get the first batter to strikeout. The next batter hit a short pop up to Coleman who took care of that for the second out fairly easily. The Gris team was down to their final out. Game Recap: Kanata Cubs vs Tyrans-Blanc - Jun 26 - Defensive Battle

Defensive Battle in Gatineau

The Cubs headed back to Gatineau for a rematch against the Tyrans-Blanc team and looking for redemption after a loss last week. The Cubs started with a strikeout but after back to back walks by Scot and Mason had a couple of runners on. With those runners now on 2nd and 3rd Hunter stepped up and hit a hard line drive to right field. After an aggressive secondary lead the runners had to tag up and get back to tag up and weren’t able to advance. After another fly out to right field the cubs couldn’t score in the top of the inning. Aidan was on the mound for the Cubs to take on the Tyrans team. After a lead off double the Tyrans team had a player in early scoring position. The next batter Aidan was able to get a grounder to Cameron at 2nd who threw over to Connor at 1st base for our number one. The runner would score from 1st on the play after having stolen 3rd. Aidan got a strikeout of the next batter to give the Cubs two outs on the inning. The next batter was what coaches thought phantomely hit on the knee by the pitch but it didn’t matter as Scot had a ground ball at him which he picked up clean and fired to Connor for our number 3. Cubs trail Tyrans 1-0.

In the top of the second Owen P led off and was able to work a walk. Thomas hit a hard ground ball towards third and the 3rd baseman fielded and fired across to 1st to get the out. Owen aggressively trying to make something happen on the bases looked to get to 3rd on the play and the 1st baseman came up throwing a strike back to 3rd to get Owen by a couple steps. Great aggressive play by Owen. A fly ball  out to Centerfield would end the inning for the Cubs. Aidan was back and battling on that mound. Some very close calls by the umpire on this night. The first batter walked on some very close pitches. The next batter hit a fly ball to Thomas which he caught in right field. Another walk to the 8 batter had two runners on. A single by the number 9 batter would bring in a run for the Tyrans team.  Aidan was able to get a strikeout to the next batter followed by a pop up to Cameron at 2nd base to end the inning. Cubs trail Tyrans 2-0.

Top of the 3rd was upon us and the Cubs were looking to get something going. Connor managed to work a walk to get the lead off batter aboard. After a passball he found himself standing at second base. A single by Kyle moved Connor over to 3rd. Cubs had something going here in the 3rd with two runners on. Connor aggressively leading off of 3rd strayed a little too far as the catcher aggressively threw down to 3rd as Connor turned to go back to the bag and picked him off. Kyle looked to steal 3rd on a pass ball and was tagged out. A strikeout came next and the inning was over for the Cubs. Aidan was back for his final inning on the mound to hold the Tyrans team and he did a great job at that. He managed to get a fly ball to himself. And back to back high long fly balls out to Kyle in left field would end the inning. One of those fly balls was a very long run for Kyle which he tracked and made the beautiful grab.

In the 4th the Cubs had a lead off ground rule double by Mason. It was a great hit after being down 0-2 in the count. Unfortunately this is all the Cubs would get this inning as a strikeout , a lineout and another strikeout would end the inning for the Cubs. Owen L was on the mound for the bottom half of the inning for his first pitching appearance of the year.  Owen walked the first batter as he looked to find the right arm slot. After two stolen bases that runner was now on 3rd. A fly ball to Connor who ran and made a diving catch to get the cubs the first out would score 1 run. The next batter hit a fly ball out to Mason in centerfield. And the 4th batter of the inning hit a fly ball to left to Kyle who made the catch. Cubs trail Tyrans 3-0.

The 5th inning was similar for the Cubs. A lead off fly ball to short right field. Aidan hit a great ground ball right down the 3rd baseline inbetween the 3rd baseman and the bag. After taking 2nd on a passball Aidan was on second. Connor walked. A linedrive hit to the shortstop would give the Cubs their first out. But after an error by the Tyrans defense trying to turn the double play Aidan was able to tag up and come all around to score the Cubs first run. A ground ball to the shortstop would end the inning but the Cubs scored 1. Owen headed back out to the mound and it was almost an identical inning to the first with a walk to lead of the inning but then the defense takes over. A ground ball to Aidan who took over at Shortstop who fired to Jacob who was now at 1st base. A fly ball to Kyle in left and a fly ball to Mason in center ended the inning.

The Cubs were down to their last chance as they needed to score runs. A lead off fly ball was able to be handled by the Tyrans right fielder. A walk to Hunter would spark some fire for the Cubs. Hunter would move to 2nd on a seeing eye single by Cameron. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Then Jacob hit a hot shot to the shortstop as he tried to leg it out  Hunter scored from third. The ball just beat Jacob to the bag for out number 2. Cameron tried to advance to 3rd and was caught by the 1st baseman throwing across the diamond to 3rd to get Cameron trying to advance to 3rd.

Final Score: Kanata Cubs 2  Tyrans-Blanc 3

Owen P would walk but that is all the Cubs could get as the next batter popped out to the shortstop. Thomas  was back on the mound and was able to get the first two batters to fly out to Owen L in center field who tracked both beautifully and made the catches. The next batter would hit a single to right field. And come around to score on a ball that ticked off a glove and to the outfield. He was able to get a ground ball hit to Hunter who fired it across the diamond to Jacob who had taken over at 1st. A fly ball to Connor in left field gave the Cubs two quick outs. A single to right field and a walk would come next but Thomas would get out of the small jam but a ground ball hit to third where Hunter would field it cleanly and step on his bag to ensure no runs score. Cubs lead 11-3.

The 6th inning would be the last. The Cubs had Scot leading off who worked a walk. A strikeout would come next but back to back walks to Mason ad Jacob had the bases loaded for Hunter. Hunter would absolutely destroy a ball over the right field fence for a grand slam homerun.  A fly ball to the shortstop who had to fade back had the cubs with two outs and Owen P up who hit a ground ball up the middle. That is all the Cubs would get as they next batter fouled out to the first baseman. Jacob came on for the bottom half of the inning in relief of Thomas. Jacob who hadn’t pitched in a few weeks was anxious to get back into it and he sure did. He was able to get the lead off batter to ground out to Owen P who had taken over at 1st. Game Recap - Bytown Dodgers vs Kanata Cubs (DH - Game 1) - Defense Defense Defense

Summer finally arrived in full force as the Cubs headed to Blackburn to take on the Bytown Dodgers in a double-header on Saturday. Cubs were looking to get back in the win column after a loss and a tie earlier in the week. The Cubs were on the sticks to start and the message from the coaches was once again “let’s be aggressive and get the bat on the ball, put the ball in play and make things happen”. The Cubs went to the sticks to face a pitcher they had not seen yet. A hard throwing lefty. Unfortunately it was a 3 up 3 down inning for the Cubs with 2 strikeouts as they struggled against this tall Dodgers lefty to start the game. Cameron was on the mound for the Cubs for his first start of the season. A lead off walk to the first batter to start the game and then Cameron settled in. A strikeout to the next batter gave the Cubs their first out. After a couple stolen bases the 3 batter for the Dodgers hit a high fly ball to Centrefield to Mason who made the catch for the second out. The Dodgers runner tagged and scored taking a 1-0 Dodger lead. Cameron would catch the next batter looking. Cubs trail 1-0.

Cubs were able to get a couple of runners on base after a strikeout started the top of the 2nd inning. Two walks had 2 runners on and a double steal had the runners in scoring position. Unfortunately a strikeout would put the cubs down to their final out of the inning trying to score. A Scot Walk loaded the bases. Connor tried to take home on a pass ball and was called out at the plate for the 3rd out of the inning. Cubs couldn’t cash in the second.  In the bottom half Cameron was back out on the mound. The lead off Dodgers batter led off with a towering shot to left center field over the head of Mason. Mason ran to the ball quickly and relayed the ball to Aidan who fired to Owen L at 2nd who laid down a great tag to get the running at 2nd base. A ground ball to Aidan at Short who threw across the diamond to Jacob at 1st for the second out. Cameron took care of the rest by the strikeout to the next batter. Cubs still down 1-0.

Cubs were looking to get something going  in the top of the 3rd. Some control issues by the Dodgers lefty had both Owen L and Aidan on base with walks. A fly ball would cost the Cubs out number one followed by a strikeout. With runners ion scoring position once again the cubs needed a hit. Bat got on the ball but the Dodgers defender went home on the play and tagged Owen trying to score the tying run. Cubs leave runners aboard. In the bottom half Cameron was doing his job trying to keep the game close. The Leadoff Dodgers hit a high fly ball which Thomas was able to get over and track to make the catch in right field. A ground ball to Owen L at second from the next batter gave the cubs two outs when Owen fired over to Jacob at 1st. After giving up a walk the next batter had a weak pop up to 3rd which Scot caught with ease. Cubs still behind 1-0.

Cubs had Owen P leading off the 4th and he hit a seeing eye single up the middle.  A strikeout would come next but Kyle Milinazzo dealing with some left knee soreness managed to hit a single scoring OP to tie the game. Kyle would be caught stealing 2nd giving the Cubs 2 outs. A hard ground ball up the middle everyone thought was a pure hit the pitcher managed to tip and slow down for the second baseman to grab and fire to first to get the third out. Cameron was back on the mound to start the bottom half of the inning. He got a strikeout to batter number 1 and then after a single was hit up the middle, Cameron got a double play ground ball hit to Aidan at short who flipped to Owen L at 2nd who fired across to a stretching Jacob at first. Cubs and Dodgers tied at 1.

The top of the 5th the Cubs got their lead off runner Scot on courtesy of the walk. A fly ball to left field came next. Scot managed to steal two bases to put himself in scoring position. A strikeout followed by a ground ball to the shortstop who threw to first would end the Cubs rally with Scot stranded at 3rd base. Cameron headed back out for the 5th inning and battled from that mound and had a fantastic pitch count. After a slight error on a throw got the first Dodgers runner aboard. Cameron took over getting a strikeout. The next batter laid down a bunt moving his runner to 3rd. Cameron fielded the bunt and fired to first where Jacob made the catch giving the Cubs 2 outs. Cameron got a strikeout of the next batter to end the scare the Dodgers were placing on the Cubs.

Cubs were up in the 6th trying to take the lead but it was a short inning as the cubs went down in order. A fly ball to the first baseman who made the catch in foul and two strikeouts was all the Cubs would send to the plate this inning. Cameron’s day was done and Owen P came on to face the Dodgers in the bottom of the 6th. A lead off walk got aboard. Owen managed to get a strikeout of the next batter. Two stolen bases by the leadoff batter had the runner at 3rd. The next batter laid down a bunt which Jacob charged and was able to tag the runner but was unable to get the speedy Dodgers player running home from 3rd to give the Dodgers the lead. A double to right field down the line gave the Dodgers a runner on 2 with 2 outs. Owen P was able to get a ground ball to 1st where Jacob took it himself and took it to the bag for the 3rd out. Cubs trail 2-1.

The Cubs were down to their final 3 outs as they headed into the top of the 7th. Down by 1 run. The lead off batter went down called on strikes. A ground ball back to the pitcher came next. Thomas came up with 2 outs and hit a line drive to left centerfield to get the tying run on base for the Cubs. The next batter hit a hard ball but the shortstop was able to grab the ball and take the fielders choice out at 2nd to end the game.

Final Score: Kanata Cubs 1  Bytown Dodgers 2

Key Player Highlight was a fantastic pitching performance by Cameron Goldie (5 IP, 6K’s, 2BB, 68 pitches)

Game Recap: Kanata Cubs vs South Bend Bears - Cubs Walk Away A Win

It was a hot one on Wednesday night and after some confusion on the time of the first pitch the Cubs got underway against the South Bend Bears. Connor Wilson was on the mound to face off against the Bears. The bears got their lead off batter aboard with a single. Connor fought back immediately getting the next batter with a strikeout. The next batter hit a single and then dreaded 4th batter for the Bears launched a homerrun to right field. Connor as he does battled and struck out the next batter to giove the Cubs their 2nd out of the inning. The next batter single to left field. Connor left him on base after delivering another strikeout for the 3rd out. The Cubs were down 3 runs before they got to bad so they had to respond. Jacob who has been hitting the ball well lately was leading off for the Cubs. He lept his hot bat rolling as he stroked a double over the right fielders head. A Cameron walk came next following by a Mason Kemp single which scored Jacob. Mason would eventually be caught stealing 3rd giving the Cubs their first out of the inning. Back to Back walks by Owen P and Connor would have two runners aboard for Kyle. Kyle roped a double to the fence scoring 2 runs. Thomas would walk. After a fly ball giving the Cubs their second out Owen L hit a seeing eye single to short left field scoring Kyle from 3rd. Hunter walked and that brought Jacob to the plate for the second at-bat of the inning. Jacob continued to bash the ball hitting another double scoring 2 more runs before the inning was over. Cubs lead 9-3

Connor was back on the mound for inning number 2. A dropped 3rd strike got aboard as the lead off batter. The next batter hit a line drive which everyone in the crowd thought was doing to left center but Scot leaped up from short stretched to his left and made a great grab taking a sure hit away from the Bears player. Connor was able to get the next batter to hit a grounder to Owen P at 3rd who fired to Jacob at 1st for out number 2.The second dropped 3rd strike of the inning would come around to score and cost the Cubs a run before the next batter hit a grounder to Cameron at second base who flipped to Jacobb for the 3rd out of the inning. Cubs looked to extend their lead. Mason led off with a single to left field. he would come around to score after a couple of stolen bases and a Connor ground ball to the right side. Unfortunately a strikeout and a ground ball out was next and the Cubs could only get the one run across the plate. They tied the inning though and still had the lead 10-4.

Pitch count was climbing but Connor was back on the mound for the top of the 3rd inning. Connor unfortunately hit the lead off batter with a pitch inside putting the runner at first. The next batter roped a double to right field over the fielders head. The next batter singled to right scoring 2 runs. A ground ball to the right side Cameron picked it up and the throw got away Jacob picked it up and threw home to Thomas who was able to stop the runner trying to score. Thomas chased him back to 3rd and threw it to Owen P just in time for him to lay the tag down for the first out. The base runner had advanced to second on the play. Connor with a beautiful pickoff move got the runner sleeping at 2nd and Scot was their to make the tag on the runner to give the Cubs their second out. Connor struck out the next batter to end the inning. Cubs had to get on the sticks this inning. Unfortunately a pop to left field gave the Cubs their first out. A Scot walk gave the cubs a baserunner. Scot stole second and Owen L was up. Off the pitch Scot broke to steal 3rd as Owen just got under the ball and hit a bloop to Short who doubled off Scot at 2nd to end the Cubs half. Cubs still lead 10-6.

Pitching change in the 4th as Hunter came on the mound for the Cubs. Back to back walks to start the inning put the Cubs on their heals. Hunter was able to get the third batter courtesy of the strikeout. After another walk, the next batter hit a grounder to Short where Scot picked i up and did a backhand flip to Owen P who was waiting at 3rd and was able to get the runner at 3rd but one run would score on the play. Hunter ended the inning with a strikeout. Cubs were up in the bottom half of the inning. A deep fly ball to the track by Hunter was close but tracked by the Bears fielder for the first out. Jacob kept his perfect night alive with a single through the infield to left field. He would unfortunately be stranded at 3rd after stealing a couple bases as a fly out to right field and a strikeout would not being that important run home. Cubs still lead 10-7.

Hunter headed back out there for the top of the 5th which would prove to be the last inning. A solid start with a strikeout to the lead off batter. A walk followed by another strikeout had the Cubs with 2 outs and 1 eunner on. Hunter unfortunately loaded the bases with back to back walks before Mason came on in relief to pitch. Mason would walk the first batter he faced bringing in one run. The next batter would hit a 2 run single to tie the game before Mason was able to get a strikeout of the next batter. The Cubs were in need of 1 run to take the victory but they were up against the Bears top pitcher. After back to back strikeouts Kyle came up and was plunked in the arm by the hard throwing pitcher. Unfortunately that was the only baserunner the Cubs would get this inning as the strikeout came next.

Game Recap: Kanata Cubs vs Tyrans-Blanc - Quiet in Quebec

After what was seemingly was the longest drive to get across the border and what was definitely a warm night the Kanata Cubs were in Gatineau to take on the Tyrans-Blanc team. The Cubs were looking to get on the bats early with the direction from the coaches being aggressive hitting, putting the ball in play, and having a hitters mindset. Jacob Sherwin led off for the cubs and was able to work a walk. Unfortunately after managing to swipe both 2nd and 3rd Jacob was left stranded at 3rd as the next three cubs batter went down by strikeout. Aidan was on the mound and after 1 pitch a comeback which Aidan reached up and grabbed and a quick toss to Jacob at 1st gave the Cubs their first out. A walk  then a strikeout had the cubs with 2 outs in the inning. That walk would come around to score after a fly ball managed to land in the outfield. Aidan took care of the next batter courtesy of the strikeout. Cubs trail 1-0.

In the top of the second it was a similar fate for the cubs as they unfortunately went three up three down this inning. A fly ball which the Tyrans leftfielder tracked and caught, a ground ball to the first baseman who took it to the bag himself, and the last out was a fly ball to the right fielder. Aidan was back on the mound in the bottom of the 2nd inning. The dreaded lead off walk would come around to score on a single but only after Aidan struck out the next two batters. A ground ball up the middle scored the Tyrans' 2nd run of the inning before a ground ball to Mason at 2nd who quickly flipped to Jacob at 1st for the 3rd out ended the inning. Cubs trail 3-0.

Top of the 3rd was a similar story unfortunately for the Cubs on this night. After a strikeout to start the inning, Owen L was beaned and got aboard. Owen took off for 2nd to steal and what he thought was an over throw proved costly as he strayed from the bag and was caught on the wrong side of a rundown. A strikeout to the next batter ended the inning for the cubs. Aidan waas out for his final inning based on the Baseball Quebec rules so he wanted to make it a good one. A lead off single to left field through the infield got the Tyrans lead off batter aboard. Aidan managed to Strikeout the next two Tyrans batters. A double to left field scored 1 for the Tyrans team before Aidan was able to get a ground ball hit to Hunter who fired it across the diamond to Jacob for the 3rd out. Cubs trail 4-0.

Top of the 4th the Cubs got the bat on the ball but couldnt get the ball past the Tyrans defense. A high fly ball to left field, a high fly ball to centerfield and a ground ball to the pitcher spelled the end of the inning for the cubs with just 3 batters. Mason was on the mound in replace of Aidan starting the bottom of the fourth inning. The Tyrans leadoff batter got aboard with a lead off single to the left side. Mason got a strikeout of their #9 batter for the first out. A single would score the Tyrans' first run of the inning. The next batter hit an infield fly just in foul territory on the third base side which Hunter tracked and caught for the 2nd out. A line drive to opposite field would score two runs for the Tyrans team. Thomas managed to get to the ball quickly and fire it in almost getting the runner straying off first. A ground ball back to Mason who flipped it to Cameron who had taken over at first base gave the cubs their 3rd out. Cubs trail 7-0.

In the top of the 5th the Cubs were looking for their first hit of the game. Hunter delivered with a hard hot shot that the 3rd baseman could not field cleanly and Hunter was able to beat it out at 1st. The next Cubs batter just got under a ball and popped it up where the catcher made a nice grab and fired to first to double off Hunter before he was able to get back to the bag to tag up. A walk was all the Cubs could get this inning after that as ground ball to shortstop would end the inning for the Cubs. Mason a clean bottom of the 5th as he got the leadoff batter to ground out to Hunter who fired across the diamond to Cameron at 1st. A ground ball hit through to rightfield came next but Thomas came up firing and Cameron was ready on his bag and the Cubs got their second out on what was a bang bang play at 1st. After the next batter reached on an error the Cubs ended the inning as a ground ball was hit to Scot at short and he was able to reach out and make the tag for the third out as the runner tried to squeeze by him. Cubs trail 7-0.

It was do or die time for the Cubs this inning as this was the last inning. After a leadoff groundout to the shortstop, Cameron came up and was able to hit a single just over the head of the second baseman to get aboard. A fly ball to center field would come next leaving the Cubs down to their last out. Mason drew a walk to give runners at 1st and 2nd. They advanced courtesy of the Tyrans pitcher balk. Thomas was up with 2 runners on and he was able to hit a seeing eye single to the right side past the second baseman to score Cameron. The next cub but a charge into a ball but it was not enough as it stayed in the air long enough for the Tyrans fielder to make the catch. Cubs score 1 in the inning.

Final Score: Kanata Cubs 1  Tyrans-Blanc 7

Game Recap: Kanata Cubs vs Bytown Dodgers

The Kanata Cubs were playing host to the Bytown Dodgers. This would be their first match up of the season. Kanata was sending Owen Perry to the mound to start the game against the Dodgers and he was accurate and all over that strike zone early. An early single got the Dodgers player aboard with a single to right field. As the dodgers player tried to stretch the single to a double Thomas got the ball in quickly from right field to 2nd base to catch the runner in a pickle which the Cubs had just worked on in practice and executed perfectly. Hunter McKnight got a nice throw from Coleman, Hunter then ran the player back and was able to get the tag. A single and a walk is all the Dodgers would get this inning as a grounder to Coleman at 2nd who flipped to Cameron at 1st gave the Cubs their second out. Owen Perry did the rest getting the #5 batter in the Dodgers lineup courtesy of the strikeout looking. It was time for the Cubs to hit the sticks. The coaches were trying to instill the hitters aggressive mentality. Coleman led off with a single and advanced on a pass ball to second and to 3rd on a Scot single through the infield. Mason came up and hit a high fly ball to center. Both Cubs runners would tag and attempt to advance. Coleman was safe at home but Scot was called out on a close sliding play at 2nd. After Connor was hit by a pitch that was all the baserunners the Cubs would get this bottom half inning. Cubs take early 1-0 lead.

Owen Perry was back on the hill for the second inning. After the Dodgers leadoff batter got a single. A ground ball to 3rd Hunter fielded and fired a hard throw to 2nd to get the lead runner for the first out with a fielders choice. The next batter had a similar fate but grounded to Scot at Shortstop and he tossed to Coleman at 2nd for back to back fielders choice outs in the inning. Owen took care of that next out himself courtesy of the strikeout. The Cubs were up at the bottom of the second and unfortunately were send 3 up and 3 down with two strikeouts.

Owen headed back out on the mound with a fantastic pitch count headed into the 3rd inning having only thrown 21 pitches. The lead off batter hit a big double to the fence in right centre field. The coach called for the bunt sacrifice which the Dodgers executed with a bunt and Owen P fielded as he came off the mound and threw to Cameron at 1st as the runner advanced to 3rd. The Dodgers runner scored from 3rd on a single by the next batter but that is all that Owen would allow as he struck out the next two batters. In the bottom of the third inning after the first two batters got out Coleman, Scot, and Mason all worked walks to load the bases. Connor hit a check swing single which scored Coleman. Hunter reached base on a dropped third strike and Scot was able to score. An Owen single had another run score for the Cubs. Cubs score 3 runs in the bottom half of the 3rdinning. Cubs lead 4-1.

In the fourth inning Owen P had a 3 up 3 down inning with the first being a deep fly ball to centerfield, Owen L had a hard throw to Scot and was able to lay the tag for the runner taking 2nd. A Fly ball to Connor in right field gave the Cubs out number 2 and Owen struck out the 3rd batter for out number 3. With one out the Cubs were in business with Thomas hitting a single. After a pass ball and a stolen base Thomas was on 3rd for Cameron who hit a single to bring him home giving the Cubs their 5th run. Coleman continued his perfect night at the plate with a single scoring Cameron. Kyle hit a 2 run single just inside the 1st baseline which made its way to right field. Connor also singled in the inning but that was all the Cubs would be able to get but not before they scored 4 more in the inning. Cubs lead 8-1.

5th inning was upon us and Owen was on the mound ready for one more inning against the Dodgers. Owen was still going strong in the 5th as he got the first out himself by strikeout. The next batter hit a ground ball to short where Scot fielded it and fired across the diamond to Cameron for our number 2. The next batter managed to reach on a fly ball communication error between our fielders but it wouldn’t cost us as the next batter flew out to Connor in Right Field. Cubs were back on the sticks. Jacob was leading off and was walked after a good at bat where Jacob was able to foul off a couple of balls before reaching base on the walk. Cameron hit a single scoring Jacob after he stole second. Coleman singled and the Cubs had runners at 2nd and 3rd for Scot. Scot said to coach he was hitting one for AB. Well he sure did! Scot roped a 2 run double scoring both Coleman and Cameron bringing the Cubs to 11 runs and the mercy victory.

Kanata Tournament - Game 3 - Kanata Cubs vs Lac St.Louis Tigers

Coleman was leading off and after a very strong at bat making the Tigers pitcher throw quite a few pitches he was out for the first time in the tournament. Scot followed as the second batter and worked a walk but that is the most the Cubs would get against a solid Tigers pitcher as he struck out the next two batters. Hunter went to the mound for the Cubs. Hunter got a quick ground ball out as the lead off batter hit a grounder to Scot at 3rd who got the runner after a hard throw to Cameron at 1st. The next batter got a double to the left centre gap. The 3rd batter after a long battle hit a homerun to score 2 runs. After a walk Hunter delivered a hard strikeout to the next batter. The Cubs were up and looking to tie the game in the 2nd. Aidan led off and was just called out on a close call after a groundball hit to the shortstop. Back to back walks would come be next for the Cubs. Unfortunately a strikeout and a groundball to the second baseman would end the inning. Hunter wanted to keep it close for the Cubs. Hunter started strong with a strikeout to the leadoff batter. A ground ball to Scot who got the runner on a close play at 1st for out number two. The inning would end with the next batter who Hunter got to fly out to Kyle in leftfield.

In the third inning it was really tough one for the cubs. The only baserunner the Cubs could get was a double hit by Coleman down the left field line. Unfortunately the Cubs were not able to move him around the bases as they got back to back strikeouts. Hunter was out there once again. A single would start the inning. After a stolen base Hunter struck out the next two Tigers batters. Hunter almost had the third but the runner was able to make it to first safely as the ball bounced around behind home plate and the throw was not in time. As the throw was made to first the runner at 3rdwas able to come around and score. Hunter was able to get a fly ball to centerfield to Connor.

In the fourth inning Mason led off with a walk. A strikeout would come next after a tough at bat. A ground ball back to the pitcher and another strikeout ended the inning for the Cubs. Hunter was back on the mound looking  to hold the strong Tigers team to a 3 run lead. After a lead off double Hunter was able to get a strikeout to the next batter before he had reached his pitch count. Aidan came on in relief. The runner would come around to score after a pass ball. A grounder to Owen L who had taken over for Aidan at short flipped to Mason for the second out of the inning. A pop fly to Mason at 1st ended the inning with the Tigers leading by 4.

Hunter was leading off for the Cubs and was able to rope a hard ground ball through the infield. Back to back walks to Owen L and Kyle gave bases loaded and had the Cubs in business. The Tigers made a pitching change and brought in their ace. That pitcher managed to strikeout the next three batters to end the Cubs rally. The Cubs had to hold the Tigers here to get a chance as time was running out. Aidan was back on the hill. After a leadoff double he got the strikeout of the next batter but that was all the Cubs could get as 4 singles, a double, and a dropped third strike brought in 6 runs for the Tigers to end the game.

A hard fought battle by the cubs against a very strong Lac St.Louis Tigers team. The Cubs coaches indicated there was some real learning done in this game for the cubs.

It was a wet and rainy delayed start as the Cubs headed out to Merrickville for a double-header with the Surge. The Surge beat the Cubs in their last matchup so the Cubs were looking for redemption. As the game got started the rain stopped and the players were able to hit the field.

The Cubs were leading off the inning with Owen L who hit a fly ball to left field but the fielder tracked over to make the grab. Jacob hit a hard shot up th emiddle to get himself aboard. After a groundout Scot followed suit and the Cubs got their second run of the day. That is all they would get but took the early 2-0 lead. AB was the man on the mound this day. It took a few batters for AB to find that right arm slot as he walked the first three batters. A big hit to the fence came next clearing the bases on a double. AB was not allowing anymore as he absolutely shutdown the surge from there with three strikeouts in a row. AB came off the field and said "Hey Coach, I found my slot I'm good now." and boy was he! Cubs trail 3-2 after the first.

The second inning was a shorter one for the Cubs as they were sent down in order after 2 ground balls and strikeout. AB was keeping his team in this game as he followed suit getting 2 strikeouts and a grounder to Connor at 2nd who flipped it over to Cameron at first.

In the top of the 3rd inning the Cubs got going after a lead off strikeout as they had back to back singles by AB and Coleman who had a big at-bat battle against the Surge pitcher fouling off many balls until hitting a high strike to right field which scored AB. Back to back strikeouts are what followed sending the Surge down in order. Cubs lead 6-3.

Top of 4th was not as lucrative as the 3rd as the Cubs themselves were set down with back to back outs to start. AB hit a single then a ground ball by Coleman that he beat out had the defence throw and get AB at 3rd for the 3rd out. The next batter hit a ground ball up the middle the was fired wildly off line and ended up in right field. Cameron quickly got to the ball and fired a strike as the runner tried to make it to 3rd on the overthrow and Scot caught a great throw by Cameron and made the tag for the first out. Cubs hold Surge to 3 runs. Game is tied.

In the 6th inning the Cubs were unable to muster anything on the bats with the exception of a seeing eye single hit by Owen L. Mason was back on the mound doing what he does and that is battle. Mason had a dribbler hit and as he came off the mound to grab the ball anded up on his belly, a backhanded pitch to Cameron had the first out. After a single a hard grounder to Scot at 3rd fired to AB for the out at 2nd for the fielders choice. A couple of fielding errors allowed a couple of Noir players to get basehits and get aboard the bases before Cameron was able to strikeout the next batter of the inning. Game Recap: Kanata Cubs vs Tyrans-Noir - Game 1

Saturday Jun 1st the Kanata Cubs played host to the Tyrans-Noir in a cross border battle at GRC park. Hunter McKnight was on the mound for the Cubs and was dealing early. In the first inning Hunter managed to get an early ground ball hit to Aidan at short who made a hard toss across the diamond to Cameron who was holding down 1st base. After the Noir team got a base hit to to Right Field, AB (who was behind the plate for Hunter) after a ball slipped away AB made a hard throw to second just missing getting a stealing runner. Hunter went on to strike out the next batter. Hunter would give up one more hit but leave those runners standed after striking out the Tyrans 5th batter of the inning. The Cubs were up and had a chance to take an early lead in the bottom half of the inning. Unfortunately the Cubs couldnt respond as they went 3 up and 3 down with 2 strikeouts.

In the second inning Hunter headed to the mound. After giving up the dreaded lead off walk, Hunter struck out the next batter. The next batter hit into a taylor made double play that Owen fielded and threw over to Cameron to end the inning quickly for the cubs. Cubs managed to shutout the Noir in back to back innings and wanted to take advnatage in their half. AB was leading off and after a tough battle AB worked a walk. He was very aggressive on the basepaths stealing 2 bases and finds himself on 3rd base. A strikeout to our next batter had Aidan up and wanting to take the lead. Aidan drove a ball to left centre field to score AB. Aidan came in to score on a big double hit by Kemper to deep centrefield. Kemper would be called out attempting to steal 3rd to hand the cubs two outs on the inning. The third out came at the case of a strikeout. Cubs take the early lead 2-0.

Hunter headed back out to the mound for the 3rd inning. a single off the glove of Aidan had the lead-off runner aboard. The first out came off the next batter who hit a bit of a bloop shot to what we thought was no mans land just over the infield and before the outfield, but this was the area that Scot patrols and he made a sliding catch to give the Cubs their first out. A single and a walk would end Hunters day but ONLY because of pitch counts as the coaches try to ensure we have enough bandwidth for the double-header on sunday. Owen Perry came into pitch in his second appearance of the season. Owen managed to get a grounder to Cameron who took it to 1st for the second out. A fly ball out to right field to Thomas was the end of the inning as he made the catch. In the bottom half of the inning it was another quick one for the Cubs as they went 3 up three down. They thought they had some life with a Scot two-out single but he was picked off and caught in a rundown with a nice pickoff move by the Noir Pitcher. Cubs still keep the lead 2-1.

Owen returned to the mound for the top of the 4th inning. Owen was throwing strikes and needed his defense to pick him up. A few single, aggressive baserunning, and players not getting their gloves down would cost the cubs a few runs this inning. Tyrans-Noir dropped down a bunt that Owen fielded as he came off the mount and threw to Coleman who was covering the bag for Goldie. Owen battled and managed to get two strikeouts to end the inning but not before the Noir team scored 5. Cubs had to answer now with their bats. With one out Hunter McKnight roped a ball for a double and quickly stole third. Back to Back walks by AB and Owen P had aidan up who roped a single. Mason followed it up with a single of his own. Jacob hit a 2 out single to right field scoring 2 more runs. Cubs answer back with 5 runs and take a 7-6 lead.

In the last inning Owen was back on the mound. A lead off single would come around to score and tied the game on a double hit by the Noir. After a walk the Noir had runners on first and 2nd when a ground ball was hit to Owen at short who flipped it over to Hunter to make the 3rd out. Owen held his team in there as he struck out the next two batters to end the Noir Half inning. The Cubs had a chance to win it. After two ground ball outs Hunter hit a rope to the field for a double. That brought AB to the plate. Hunter stole 3rd on a pass ball. AB had a hitters count and then umpire made a really questionable call for a 3rd strike which everyone thought was low, the catcher didnt come up clean but threw to 1st for the 3rd and final out.

Important to note - Huge gutsy effort by Aidan Lichty who took a bad hop in this game at Shortstop as it came up and caught him in the chin. He would return on the day!!! Amazing Character!

Final Score: Kanata Cubs 7  Tyrans-Noir  7

Cubs 3  Surge 7.

In the 4th Inning Aidan was on the Hill for the Cubs and he did his job with a 9 pitch inning getting a comeback grounder, a fly ball out to Kyle in Left Field and a strikeout to end the Surge half of the inning 3 up 3 down. Cubs had to respond and after a groundout a walk and fielders choice the cubs already had 2 outs when the Sly guy stepped up and roped a double to the left field fence scoring Jacob. A strikeout to the next batter made it that the Cubs only managed 1 run in the 4th. Cubs 4 Surge 7

In the 5th Aidan was back on the mound after a very impressive 4th inning. Scot took over at SS and made 2 excellent plays at short and fired the ball across the diamond to AB. One of those was on the backhand deeper in the hole and he managed to plant and fire and get the runner at 1st. Unfortunately the Surge managed to hit a few very hard balls. A couple of line drives up the middle to CF. A couple hard ground balls through the infield. They managed to score 8 in the inning before the Cubs could get the 3rd out courtesy of the strikeout by relief pitcher Owen P. In the bottom half of the inning the cubs were out of time, it was now or never and unfortunately they couldn’t get the bat on the ball. In the first innning Mason Kemp led off for the Cubs but it was a 3 up 3 down inning for the Cubs as they looked to get into the groove at the plate. Connor Wilson battled right back shutting the Bears down after a couple of walks he had back to back strikeouts and then handled a comeback grounder comfortably with a throw over to Cameron for the 3rd out of the inning. After 1 Score is 0-0.

The top of the second inning was similar to the first for the Cubs. More solid at-bats in terms of looking for the right pitches, a couple of foul balls, but unfortunately it was still 3 up and 3 down for the Cubs. In the back half of the inning Connor stayed strong. Striking out the first batter. A grounder to sure handed shortstop Aidan Lichty was fielded nicely and fired to Cameron for out number 2. The top of the 3rd was led off by Connor tried to help his own cause. Unfortunately he went down on the strikeout. Scot Melvin & Coleman sly got our first baserunners of the year working back to back walks off the strong Bears pitcher. A couple of stolen bases and the cubs has some pressure but a ground ball by Mason couldnt get by the Bears infield as they managed to get out of the inning with no damage. In the bottom half of the inning Connor was back on the mound. A lead off walk to the 10th batter came around to haunt the Cubs and score the 1st run of the game after a stolen base and a hit by the Bears. The Bears got another hit up the middle to CF, as the baserunner rounded 3rd Mason threw an absolute strike to catcher AB who laid a beautiful tag to get the 1st out of the inning. Once again after a strolen base the Bears had a runner at 2nd with 1 out when a single was hit to Leftfielder Kyle who immediately relayed the ball to Aidan who fired a strike of his own to homeplate, AB placed the tag on on the runner in what was a closer play at the plate for the second out of the inning. Connor got himself out of the inning as he caught the Bears baserunner wandering too far off of 2nd base with a pick off that caught the runner in a rundown which was executed perfectly by the Cubs getting the 3rd out of the inning. An inning that could have had quite a bit more damage if it wasn't for the great defense by the Cubs. Score Cubs trail 1-0.

The top of the 4th Cameron Goldie led the Cubs off with a walk. After a couple of stolen bases (A shuffle stumble, which he thinks nobody saw ;) ) he would come around to score and tie the game on an AB ground out to the right side of the field. Cubs tie the game 1-1. In the bottom half of the inning Connor wanted to go back out to the mound and battle with the pitches he had remaining on his daily count. A clutch hit with 2 outs by Cameron scored Kyle to give the Cubs 4 runs on the inning. Jacob headed back to the mound for the bottom half of the inning. Jacob opened some eyes with back to back strikeouts to start the inning. Eyes were opened not only by the strikeouts but the grunt that Jacob let out when he delivered his pitches to the plate. With 2 outs Jacob gave up a couple of walks and then hit the next batter to load the bases. Jacob got out of the slight jam but getting a grounder to Owen L at second base who tossed it to Cameron for the 3rd out of the inning. Cubs Lead 5-1.

As we headed to the top of the 6th inning (which would be the last inning) the Cubs led off with Thomas getting his first at-bat of the season. He tried to sneak a grounder to the right side but the Bears managed to pick iy up for the first out. Aidan worked a walk. After a couple of stolen bases he managed score on a ground ball to the right side by Jacob. Scot worked a walk with two outs. Back to back walks came next. Scot standing on third took advantage of a pass ball and scored before the Bears catcher was able to get back to the plate with the ball. Mason was hit up by the hands on the next pitch and was awarded first base. The inning ended when Owen L got a little far off of 3rd with his lead and he was caught in a run down and was called out trying to get back to 3rd base. In the bottom half of the inning the Cubs were trying to secure the win. Jacob was once again dealing as he struck out the first two batters. Back to back walks had a couple runners on base for the Bears but Jacob mowed the next batter down with a strikeout to secure the win for the cubs.

Final Score; Kanata Cubs  7   South Bend Bears   1
