Official Dedication of the Paul O'Kane Batting Cage

On Sunday, October 3rd at 4:00 p.m. we will be holding a ceremony to remember Paul O’Kane and to officially dedicate the Paul O’Kane Batting Cage in his memory.

As a President, coach and volunteer with the Kanata Baseball Association, Paul shared his passion for baseball with young people and showed them the importance of giving back to our community. Paul led the KBA in many charitable ventures and volunteered for the Scott Tokessy Memorial Gold Glove Tournament that has raised over $400,000 for CHEO since 1995. Paul’s leadership in youth sports has positively impacted young people in Kanata and the surrounding area for many years. In 2020 Paul's contributions to Kanata Baseball, to other youth sports and to charities were recognized with the Mayor's City Builder Award.

After Paul passed away in June 2020, it was important for me personally and for our Association to recognize his legacy in a permanent way that reflects his work with young athletes. In May 2021 we posted a new sign to rename our batting cage as the "Paul O’Kane Batting Cage", but due to COVID-19 restrictions we were unable to safely hold a dedication ceremony at that time.

At this time, Paul’s family and our Kanata Baseball Association would like to invite you to gather outdoors at the Paul O’Kane Batting Cage next to the Kinsmen Fields in Kanata at 4:00 p.m. on October 3rd to share memories and to officially dedicate this training facility in recognition of Paul’s legacy.

If you would like to attend this outdoor event, please bring your own chair, observe social distancing and wear a mask in situations where distancing is not possible.
