Girls Baseball

Girls Baseball Program

In 2022 we successfully re-introduced dedicated Girls Baseball teams in the KBA. The momentum is growing for an all Girls baseball league in Ottawa with most Ottawa Little Leagues now offering Girls only teams.  Ottawa West, East Nepean, South Ottawa, Orleans and Glebe Little League intend to form Girls-only teams for the 2023 season. In addition, the Director of Girls Baseball in the Outaouais has reached out and wants to arrange for exhibition games between their girls teams and ours next season.

This is an exciting time for the growth of Girls Baseball in our city!  Even Little League Canada is in full support of Girls Teams and is making plans to support the program.

Winter Training

In an effort to expand our girls program and to remove participation barriers, KBA is hard at work making plans for the following winter training opportunities for girls.

  1. A FREE "Girls, Try-Baseball clinic" to be held on Feb 3, 2023 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Bring a friend, or bring two! This will be a fun introduction to baseball in a safe space where all girls, and those who identify as female, are welcome. This will be open to girls ages 6 to 15. Details are being worked out so stay tuned for more information via our social media outlets, our website and direct email if you are in our system.

  2. A 4-week Girls Winter Skills indoor training program to be held on Fridays in March at the Sensplex Fieldhouse from 5:00-6:30 p.m. This program is a shortened version of our very popular Winter Skills program but will be tailored for girls. Players will get fundamental training on throwing/catching, hitting, flyballs, pitching (if age appropriate), baserunning and general game knowledge.  This is great prep-training to hit the field ready for action in May. Registration for this program will open in January.

Spring/Summer Program

All skill levels are welcome, including girls new to playing baseball.  Friend requests are also welcome, so spread the word and ask your girlfriends to sign up and play with you!

The Girls regular season will run from early May (as soon as we can get on the fields) until the 3rd week of July.  There will be a fun Opening Day (with prizes!) in early May with all of the Ottawa-area Girls Baseball teams (likely held at Pinecrest diamonds) and also a fun event to mark the end of the season. All players get a KBA baseball hat and dry-fit shirt that they can keep. End of season medals will also be awarded.

Players practice with their team 2x/week (Mon-Fri) with games on Sunday afternoon (normally 3pm) against other girls teams in Ottawa. Our 8U/Rookie girls will share a field with a co-ed team for their weekday practices and can play a short game of scrub-style baseball vs the co-ed team after the practice.  If the Minor and Major teams wish to have the occasional exhibition game vs a Kanata co-ed team, this can be arranged.  We are very accommodating and want to build a program our girls want and will have fun with.

New in 2023, some leagues will be able to form Junior aged (13-15 yo) girls-only teams.  It is unclear if KBA will have enough interest at this age to form a full team but any girls wanting to play, will be placed on a team in Ottawa.  For example, if a 14 year old girl wants to play Girls Baseball, we will reach out to Ottawa West or East Nepean (geographical closest leagues) to ask if you can join their girls team. We did this last year at the Major level as we did not have enough girls at Major age.  We are hopeful that we will be able to field Rookie, Minor and Major KBA teams in 2023.

Age Groups

8U / Rookie Ages 7 and 8 Coach pitch or hit from a tee Roland Michener field (home games)
Minor Ages 9 and 10 Player pitch or coach pitch Scott Tokessy field (Home games)
Major Ages 11 to 13 Player Pitch March Central field (Home games)
Junior 13-15 Player Pitch TBD

Who do we play?

Girls teams from other Ottawa Little leagues such as Ottawa West, East Nepean, South Ottawa, Glebe and Orleans Little League as well as Baseball Quebec teams from the Outaouais.
